Item Description

Swiss Quartz is world renowned for its quality. These beauties from the Alps are among the most impressive examples of the species in the terms of form, crystal clarity and often excellent smoky hues. This small cabinet group features several sharp, very lustrous, WATER CLEAR hexagonal prisms of Smoky Quartz with a gorgeous slight "cognac" hue. The matrix is composed of small Smoky Quartz crystals. The main group is undamaged on the display side, but you can see the piece contacted on the back / base where it was removed from the pocket wall. A gentle selective "dusting" of Clinochlore gives the piece contrast and character. It's very difficult to convey the quality in photos, but these crystals are gorgeous in person. We have been questioning as to whether or not this is a partial "Gwindel" based upon the habit, but it's most likely just an optical illusion. A true beauty from the Swiss Alps, and a must have for any fan of Quartz. Priced at $700 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10366). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
