Smoky Quartz w/ Spessartine Garnet

An impressive and sculptural large smoky quartz and spessartine garnet combination from Tongbei. This very aesthetic upright piece is dominated by the dramatic 8.0 cm smoky at the crest of the piece accented with the interesting split termination face. All of the well-positioned smokies have rich color with very high glassiness and lustre which is enhanced by the stepped-growth prism faces. The smokies are translucent to transparent. Sharp spessartine garnet dodecahedrons, to 8 mm, are aesthetically peppered on the smokies and on the contrasting feldspar matrix. The spessartines are dark wine-red to orange-red and some crystals glow with cherry-red color, when strongly back lit. In super shape, overall. The large smoky is complete all-around. An outside contact on the lower right smoky is certainly only a modest detraction to this very excellent combination. It totally changes, when backlit strongly, to a rich coloration.
