Item Description

An uncommon, old-time and excellent, mounded, two-sided combination specimen from the famous iron mines of Cumbria. Well-formed siderite crystals are quite rare from Cumbria. Scintillating specular hematite blades, sharp rust-brown siderite rhombs, lustrous botryoidal hematite kidney ore rest below a skyline of glassy, gemmy, smoky quartz crystals. The other side is completely different, as it is covered with smoky quartz crystals with fields of tiny siderites in between. The mounded matrix is banded hematite kidney ore. The two smokies at the crest have lightly dinged terminations, otherwise the piece is in excellent shape. Certainly over 100 years old, with the faded label on the bottom. Ex Dennis Mullane Collection.
