Item Description

A striking sharply terminated TABULAR, hexagonal smoky quartz crystal from this less well-known mine in the Papachacra pegmatites of the Andes Mountains. The very glassy and lustrous transparent to translucent smoky has variable hues on the exterior and in the interior. Backlighting really accentuates the interior colors! A remarkable aspect is that the stepped-growth prism faces are glass-clear, while the termination faces are frosted. The impressive smoky is nicely accented with smaller smokies on the microcline crystal matrix. The large smoky is complete all-around and in great shape. Trivial edge wear is noted along the very sharp termination and a termination edge bruise is out-of-sight in the primary display views. A rare and exotic style smoky from this obscure locale. Ex Dave Stoudt Collection # 813 (a petroleum geologist who worked in Argentina) and obtained in a visit to Buenos Aires in April, 2002.
