Smoky Quartz ("Morion") (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A lovely Quartz specimen from this lesser-known locality in France. The piece features very sharp, well-formed, lustrous, hexagonal pyramidal crystals of nearly completely black opaque "Morion" Smoky Quartz with individual crystals measuring up to 2.8 cm sitting on matrix. The central portion of the specimen is in great shape, though the exterior edges are contacted where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. This attractive miniature is very showy and eye-catching, and would make a nice addition to any Quartz question. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11983). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
