Item Description

Smoky Quartz crystals from Lincoln County, New Mexico are among the finest examples Smoky Quartz from any locality in the United States. These crystals are not only high quality and very gemmy, but they sometimes form in classic "Japan"-Law twins. To be honest, when I picked up this specimen, I thought it might be an Axinite based upon the habit and color. Obviously the twin habit is indicative of Quartz, but this particular style of "Japan"-Law twin is not commonly seen, as it's rather broad and looks more like a butterfly. The piece is sharp, lustrous and rather gemmy, with a rich saturated smoky hue internally. Unfortunately one end of the twin is contacted, but it's still a good representation of these fairly hard to find crystals from New Mexico.
