Item Description

Here we have an incredibly beautiful, large and fine quality, faceted Smoky Quartz from the vast granitic pegmatites in the Pikes Peak Batholith area of Colorado. While gem quality Smoky Quartz are not unheard of from this famous part of Colorado, it's exceedingly rare to find a crystal that is large enough and CLEAN enough to yield such an impressive gem. Most of the stones I've seen from this area rarely exceed 20-25 carats, and THIS gem is over 250 carats (!!), which is incredibly impressive for the material. The stone has a wonderful "Hexagon" cut, but what really makes it special is that it's incredibly clean, I can't find any visible flaws, perhaps there are some micro flaws under magnification, but that would be more than forgivable for the size. Gems like this are not only incredible collector's stones, they are honestly museum gems, but if you have a good Smoky Quartz crystal (especially from Colorado) in your collection, this stone would make a superb match for an impressive "rough and cut" set.
Retail value on this gem is $8,837.50 ($35/ct).
