Item Description

An excellent and very showy combination specimen from a most obscure Cumbria iron mine. Sharp, transparent, beta-type smoky quartz crystals are aesthetically set in a two-sided vug lined with scintillating, silvery metallic plates of specularite hematite on massive hematite matrix. This mine was worked from the 1830s to 1890s, when it was merged with the Sir John Walsh Mine. Ex Cambell Collection of Frizington and Ralph Sutcliffe Collection. Specimens from this locale are quite rare and this a fine one.
