Item Description
Exotic, monumental-looking large smoky quartz with pseudomorphs combination material from the Lake George area of Colorado. An impressive 360-degree, sharply terminated, 8.2 x 6.3 x 3.8 cm, tabular, tapered, hematite-included, moderately translucent smoky quartz monolith is dramatically set upright on the mounded albite and smoky quartz matrix. Sparkly drusy hematite richly covers much of the smoky and the matrix. AND the sparkly hematite has pseudomorphed the striking scattered sharp siderite rhombs, notably the sharp 1.9 cm pseudo on the crest of the piece. The smoky is nearly pristine, with only a small bruise along a top edge, which is certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species. The Lake George area occasionally produces such surreal looking combination pieces and this is an most excellent large example from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
