Quartz crystals known as 'Gwindels' are one of the most fascinating forms of Quartz to be found. Indeed, they are so interesting, unusual, and attractive that they hold a place of distinction within the entire mineral kingdom, period. In Gwindels, the Quartz crystals stack, side by side and on top of each other, creating these wonderful and intriguing vertical clusters. This well-formed, completely GEMMY Gwindel has a perfectly water-clear, smoky color that is classic for Swiss Smokies. The terminations of the crystals are sharp, with just a little wear. There is a small amount of rotation between the crystals along the a-axis, which is another very distinctive characteristic of this habit, but most distinctive of all is the dramatic increase in crystal size from one end to the other. This is a superb small-cabinet specimen with great clarity, high luster, and excellent form.
