Item Description

This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that states the piece was personally collected. This is a great old display piece of featuring a good quality, VERY GEMMY, sharp, well-formed, lustrous, prismatic crystal of richly colored Smoky Quartz, but when the crystal is strongly backlit, you can see beautiful cognac and reddish hues inside. It's almost completely WATER CLEAR, which is not common for Smoky Quartz crystals from this region. The best part arguably might be that the crystal is doubly-terminated, and actually multi-terminated on one end. The piece is nearly 100% complete, and though it's not a total "floater", it's close with only noteworthy contact on one end. It's a significant old time specimen dating back probably around 60 years. An attractive specimen from this noteworthy collection. Valued at $350.
