Item Description
A great old time Little Three Smoky Quartz that dates back around 40-50 years. A predominant, sharp, lustrous, stout medium color Smoky Quartz crystal is accented with a small amount of additional Smoky Quartz and Muscovite. The piece is in great shape, with only the tiniest of chipping along the termination. The back of the piece is partially healed (rehealed) and it nearly complete all the way around. Good quality and hard to find on the market these days. This piece is from the collection of Gene Foord (the namesake for Foordite), who wrote his doctoral thesis on the Himalaya Mine in San Diego County, and was also one of the authors of the 8th edition of Dana's Mineralogy. You can read more about Gene at the following link: ( http://rruff.info/doclib/cm/vol36/CM36_251.pdf ). Additionally the label states that the specimen belonged to Dr. David London (the namesake for Londonite), the professor of geology and geophysics at the University of Oklahoma.
