Smoky Quartz (doubly-terminated) (ex Willard Wulff Collection - collected by Wulff)

Item Description

This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. The piece comes with a typed label from Wulff on one of his famous 3x5 index cards that states the piece was personally collected. This is a great old display piece of featuring fine quality, VERY GEMMY, sharp, well-formed, lustrous, prismatic crystals of richly colored Smoky Quartz with a gorgeous "cognac" hue when backlit. The best part is that the specimen is a complete doubly-terminated "floater" with no point of attachment that I can see with the naked eye. It's a significant old time specimen dating back probably around 60 years. An attractive specimen from this noteworthy collection.
