Item Description
Very rare, TRUE Smoky Quartz from the Hot Springs area in Garland County, Arkansas. Quartz crystals from here are acknowledged to be some of the finest in the world for their hardness and clarity, and these Smokies do not disappoint. They are lustrous and gemmy, and the sheer size and visual balance of this large plate is impressive. The largest of these many crystals is about 5 cm in length. A few crystals among these many dozens are missing, but their absence is not noticeable. For what it is, this is truly an amazing specimen. I got it years ago from my late good friends and old-time Little Rock dealers, Hubert & Mavrous Coburn. It doesn't look anything like an irradiated piece sold in tourist shops there: those go jet-black. This is a true smoky brown. But of course, there is no way now to prove it, although my opinion is based on the trusted source and that I've seen hundreds of the irradiated pieces.
