Smoky Quartz (2 crystal set) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A wonderful 2-piece set of attractive and fine quality Smoky Quartz crystals from the Heiligenblut am Grossglockner locality (roughly translated it means "sacred blood on the big bells") in the Austrian Alps. Each crystal is virtually WATER CLEAR with a rich golden-brown hue along with incredibly sharp, lustrous, well-formed faces. The thicker of the crystals has a more typical hexagonal prismatic habit, and has a separation mark on the back where it clearly grew against another Quartz crystal at one point in time. The thinner crystal has a more unusual habit that is slightly tapered, but also slightly "bent" as you can see from the photos. It somewhat reminds me of a Tessin/Ticino habit, but I can see it's different. Additionally, there are some minute modifying faces that can be seen where the prism faces meet one another, which is rarely seen in Quartz in my experience. A really interesting and attractive set of crystals from this fairly well-known mineral producing areas. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#18 {2}). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
