Smithsonite with Malachite (ex Alex Venzke Collection)

Item Description

Smithsonite is not commonly seen from the Skorpion Mine, but this piece is even rare due to the color and the hard to find Malachite association. This piece features wonderful spherical groups of Smithsonite of a pleasing blue color associated with attractive acicular "sprays" of green Malachite. You almost never see Smithsonite of this color from this locality, and the added Malachite is such a treat. This specimen comes from the collection of our own Alex Venzke (#214), member of the leadership team of the Young Mineral Collectors group, a member of the mindat.org management team, a board member for the national Friends of Mineralogy organization, a board member for the Mineralogical Society of the District of Columbia, and co-founder and current Vice President of the Friends of Mineralogy Virginia Chapter.
