Item Description

A rare and showy combination from this ancient Pb and Zn deposit, known by the Romans (MINDAT). This is a solid, sculptural and very vuggy mass of sparkly, lumpy aggregates of gray smithsonite with scattered green tinting. The smithsonite has a very sintered look and feel. A few vugs on the piece (mainly on the front) host very glassy prismatic valentinite crystals, uncommon antimony oxide. The Trimingham label says willemite, but MINDAT does not list the species for the locale. Rare and fine combination material from this historic, less well-known Algeria locale from the Bob Trimingham Collection.
