Smithsonite w/ Sphalerite (rare)

Item Description

A rare, showy and excellent large combination specimen from this noted Arkansas locality. The front of the crust is covered with classic, burnt-orange, "turkey-fat", smithsonite in botryoidal and worm-like form. Gray zinc oxides cover the lower portion of the front. The striking, scalloped back of the piece hold fragments of very rare, lustrous, partially translucent, dark gray to olive-green, sphalerite crystals. The back is also richly casted from other dissolved away sphalerite crystals. This unique combination piece comes with three older labels. Ex George Elling Collection.
