Lustrous and translucent, pink crystals of smithsonite, to 8 mm across, are festooned on both sides of a vuggy sulfide matrix. For Tsumeb smithsonite, cobalt rich rather than manganese rich is the ore common varietal of pink-color source but the subtle differences in style and color indicate this is one of the more rare manganoan smithsonites, and these only occur from Tsumeb. A fine rarity with pleasing color. Previous dealer label priced at $2850 is probably not unfair - this is a pretty, large, and rare smithsonite varietal from finds of the 1980s, and not seen since. They ARE valuable.
