Item Description

Mint green Copper-bearing Smithsonite crystals are among the most rare and highly desired objects of Tsumeb, and remain unique to this mine! Found in a few pockets only, in this quality, they are the best green crystals of smithsonite around. This is a showy visual piece with impact, with rich crystallization attractively distributed and mounded up on a handsome cabinet specimen. This large, aesthetic specimen of completely gemmy and highly lustrous Smithsonite has a wealth of crystals richly dispersed all over the display face and around the periphery of the piece. The colorful, translucent to transparent crystals are from 2 to 3 mm in size and display prominently. A trace amount of copper adds the pleasing green color to the Smithsonite (cuprian variety). The bottom and back of the piece show the Copper-bearing Smithsonite as veinlets in the orangey-brown matrix. This piece is well composed and sits nicely for display. Specimens of this size, in such condition, are almost unheard of on the market today. Sharp crystals are much more rare than rounded growths. Valued $15-20,000.
