Item Description

A classic example of Smithsonite from Tsumeb. This mine is not only one of the greatest mineral localities in history, it has the distinction of largely producing many "best of species" examples for the majority of the mineral found there. The Smithsonites from this locality are varied in their color, chemistry and crystal habits, and they are incredibly fine quality to boot. This piece is a wonderful little miniature of the desirable cobalt-bearing Smithsonites featuring several rather vitreous, gemmy, eye-catching pink color crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm, sitting on a bit of matrix. Nearly all of the crystals are in top shape, and the piece looks beautiful both up close, and on the shelf. I love the color in this one, rich and warm, and the crystals glow when backlit.
