Smithsonite from Tsumeb is found in virtually every color of the rainbow, and it remains one the most prolific species from this most significant locality. Fans of Tsumeb minerals recognize that the Smithsonites from this world-famous mine are the most diverse in terms of habits, styles and colors. This attractive display specimen features dozens of very sharp, well-formed rhombic crystals, which range from a smoky-grey hue to a gorgeous golden-orange color caused by the presence of Cadmium. This beautiful color is highly desirable for this variety of Smithsonite, and not many of these specimens are still available on the market. The largest crystal measures 1.5 cm across. The piece is in superb condition, with no major damage that I can see with the naked eye, and it displays beautifully as you can see from the photos. Priced in the inventory at $1,200. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
