Item Description
The sculptural quality of this 3-dimensional crust of bubbly, botryoidal smithsonite is very fine. Greenish-yellow is an uncommon color for the translucent botryoids with waxy luster. This is old Santa Eulalia smithsonite - not Choix, as the matrix is limonite! As such, it is hard to find specimens such as this around for the locality. The noted periphery wear is certainly a modest detraction to this striking piece. The Trimingham label says Tamaulipas State, but MINDAT does not list the species for there. Rare and excellent.
