Item Description
The juicy, bubbly, botryoidal smithsonite on this impressive large and sculptural Choix specimen has a distinctive pealed/layered look that reveals the multi-hued colors of this fine mounded piece. The layered colors are pastel-pink on the outer surface, then a light brown above the basal layer of very pretty lavender, all above the spongy crust. Older - 1960s or 1970s vintage material from the El Refugio Mine at Choix. The barely noticeable contacting is certainly a modest detraction. Excellent and classic material from this mined out locale, that was documented in a 2011 Mineralogical Record Special Issue. This showy piece has multiple display possibilities. Ex Bob Trimingham Collection and acquired in 1994. Better in person.
