Item Description

This is a classic old rarity, from the heyday of these mines generally considered around 1900 or earlier. They only come out of old collections, anymore. A highlight of old collections was to get a Lavrion stalactitic smithsonite, sliced to show the banding. Most are gray or ugly - this very fine blue color should be considered rare. Highly polished on both sides and with just a thin veneer of drusy white quartz on the exterior, this polished smithsonite slice exhibits great luster and translucence with superb, sky blue color. You can easily see the interior banding around the core. This was offered at a major Natural History auction. Valued at $2000 for rarity, beauty and high quality.
