"Kelly Mine Smithsonite" is one of those special locality/species references that, when you hear it, immediately invokes strong, positive images, and for very good reasons. "Kelly blues" are the best known, most desired, and among the most beautiful Smithsonites in the world. On this small-cabinet piece, the crystals are either rounded or in very robust 'rice grains' that can reach an amazing 1.2 cm tip-to-tip. A rare habit from the mine! The gorgeous blue color is enhanced by the fine translucence and surfaces that are so silky they seem to be the visual version of 'plush'. And if that wasn't enough, the contrast between the Smithsonites and the rust-red limonitic matrix makes the aesthetics even better. This is simply a delightful and arresting specimen for this heralded mine.
