Item Description

EXTREMELY RARE and showy smithsonite from the obscure Birch Creek Mining District of Lemhi County, Idaho. Pretty mint-green spherical aggregates of translucent, spiky smithsonite rhombohedrons cover the blocky small cabinet matrix. The contact exposing the underlying matrix is certainly a modest detraction to this showy and colorful rarity. Ex Al Kidwell Collection and acquired in 1962, according to his label. From the worldwide mineral collection of Al Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. Rare, perhaps UNIQUE material as there are NO photographic examples of ANY species from the Birch Creek Mining District in Lemhi County or the more extensive adjacent Clark County. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
