Item Description
Pretty baby-blue bubbly botryoids with waxy luster richly cover the sculptural vuggy miniature matrix on this RARE and excellent old-timer from the famous mines of Cumbria. Smithsonite is rare from Cumbria, with blue smithsonite exceptionally so. Possibly from renowned Roughton Gill, and we found an example in MINDAT< but I admit uncertainty here as to location. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6567 and acquired at the Tucson Show in 1972 from Pala Properties, and with a prior label as well. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
