Item Description
Smithsonite specimens from this historic locale are EXTREMELY RARE and are very rarely available. The ancient Mezica mines of Slovenia started ore production in the 1400s and may have been worked by the Romans. Scintillating, translucent, brownish-gray microcrystals in spherical aggregates cover the sculptural box-work crust on this very fine and rich solid smithsonite specimem. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4370 and acquired in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Choice and rare Mezica smithsonite.
