Item Description
Intergrown, pretty sky-blue, lustrous and translucent, bladed smithsonite botryoids are aesthetically set on the limonite matrix on this elegant and rare thumbnail from famed Mina Ojuela. Very cute older material from the Willard Perkin collection or dealer stock (note the label on his TN box). He is generally credited as the inventor of the "Perky box" for standard thumbnails display. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5079 and acquired from Willard in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Classic and excellent old-time Mina Ojuela smithsonite. Blue smithsonite is VERY RARE and desirable from here. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
