An exceptional, old-time, large smithsonite combination specimen from the ancient mines at Laurium, Greece. Sculptural cells in the banded boxwork matrix are lined with juicy, gray smithsonite botryoids with waxy luster starkly contrasted with two fields of glassy milky quartz. The botryoids in one cell have a striking, worm-like look! This is easily one of the better large Lavrion smithsonite combinations, with excellent aesthetics, that we have offered at auction or even seen on the general market. It displays great from either side. Older material from a museum collection, where it was on display. Valued $1250-1500.
