Item Description
Tsumeb is beloved by collectors due to the wide variety of species found, and even the common species like Smithsonite occurred in a myriad of habits and color. Lovely soft blue-green colored vitreous aggregates of gemmy Smithsonite have formed pseudomorphs after preexisting Calcite to create an eye-catching display specimen. Very attractive on both the front and back, and the piece almost has an other-worldly quality as it looks like it could almost be organic in origin. Great quality, showy and classic! Tsumeb has produced many colors of Smithsonite, and when you combine a beautiful hue like this with the fact that it's a pseudomorph, you get a great overall specimen from this world-famous locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2320). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Valued at $1750.
