Item Description

A great small cabinet specimen from Santa Eulalia featuring several "dogtooth"-shaped crystals of what were once Calcite, but have since been pseudomorphed by mustard colored Smithsonite on minor matrix. The largest pseudomorph measures 2.6 cm. There are some incomplete areas on the crystals, which show they are partially hollow inside, so this is a complete replacement, as the original Calcite is completely gone. Most of the crystals are in good shape, though some rough spots are visible, so it's not completely pristine. Still very showy and a good "palm"-sized display specimen of this classic material.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
