Item Description

Isolated clusters of golden-yellow "turkey fat" smithsonite richly and attractively cover the sculptural small cabinet matrix on this very fine specimen from the old Philadelphia Mine at Rush, Arkansas. The golden-yellow cadmium-rich smithsonite has pseudomorphed the numerous curved, saddle-shaped dolomite crystals on the siliceous limestone matrix plate. This is a large, dimensional display piece - so a bit of noted periphery wear is certainly only a modest detraction. Comes with a custom-made and engraved lucite base valued at $145 for free. Collected by Doug Wallace and Don Heins in 2002. See the 1993 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 24, No. 4 for more info. An aesthetic, rich and classic Arkansas pseudomorph. Good specimens, such as this, are very uncommon today and this ia a GREAT one of high level, which Doug valued at $3000-4000 when he sold us most of his personal collection here in Dallas in 2020. Large and well colored specimens like this are NOT common.
