Brown smithsonite has completely replaced sharp dogtooth-style calcite crystals on this classic replacement from Ojuela. However, this is an unusually big and pristine plate of the replacement, and it is made special by the sprinkles of brilliant white hemimorphites draped atop. They are sparkly and gemmy, like wet sugar grains. Overall, the contrast of texture and luster really makes the piece stand out from others we have seen, which are generally just "brown." Likely an old specimen. Valued $750.
Donated by Les and Paula Presmyk, De Natura, in memory of Gary Weaver.
