Item Description
Gray, waxy lustre, multi-generational gray smithsonite has pseudomorphed a striking and aesthetic small cabinet cluster of sharp dogtooth calcite crystals from the ancient, historic Lavrion mines. The last generation of botryoidal smithsonite lines the sculptural vug and coats most of the dogtooth pseudos, except for the tips of the earlier smithsonite generation. A dramatic accent to the piece. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a bruised tip to a smaller pseudo on the right side. Probably older material, as this was known as an Exceptional and rare smithsonite after calcite in this style from this famed locale. Ex J.G. Dixon and Tom Wolfe Calcite Collecions. Comes with a Dixon label dating to the 1960s or 70s. Fairly valued at $1250 for rarity and very high quality.
