Item Description
A RARE old-time pseudomorph from the famous and ancient mines at Lavrion. Dogtooth calcite specimens are well-known from here, BUT smithsonite pseudos after dogtooth calcites are EXTREME RARE. Greenish straw-yellow smithsonite has replaced a sculptural dense cluster of calcites, to about 1.8 cm. The scattered bruising reveals the radial growth of the replacing smithsonite, adding character. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1768 and acquired from Scott Williams in October, 1960 at the Long Beach Club Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A fine Lavrion pseudomorph rarity and MUST for the pseudomorph, species or locality collector.
