Item Description
A really attractive and interesting association specimen showing fine quality modified rhombic GEM quality, colorless Smithsonite crystals measuring up to 6 mm sitting on silvery-black Galena matrix. You need to view the piece up close to really appreciate the quality, but you don't see a lot of Smithsonites from Broken Hill with this kind of quality, regardless of size. Usually the Smithsonites from this mine are a bit more "milky" or translucent, and rarely and gemmy and fine as the crystals on this piece. If you collect carbonates, Smithsonites, secondary ore minerals or specimens from Broken Hill. Don't pass this one up, it's really attractive and worthwhile for what it is. The piece comes from an old East Coast collection with a very simple hand-written label that simply says "Smithsonite on Galena" on one side and "Broken Hill, Australia" on the other side.
