Smithsonite on Aurichalcite (classic material)

Item Description

A fine quality and eye-catching old-time association specimen from the famous Kelly Mine in New Mexico, which has produced some of the finest examples of Smithsonite (particularly blue Smithsonite) in the world. This cabinet sized piece features attractive, translucent, radiating groups and "rice grain"-shaped aggregates of attractive blue colored Smithsonite sitting atop radiating banded, lighter blue color Aurichalcite on matrix. The largest Smithsonite measures about 6 mm across, and if you flip the piece over, you can see the banded growth forms of the Aurichalcite aggregates quite nicely. The Smithsonites are best seen under magnification, and we've photographed them with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate their quality.
