Item Description

A lovely old association specimen from the famous Kelly Mine in New Mexico, which has produced some of the finest examples of Smithsonite (particularly blue Smithsonite) in the world. This piece features a radiating spherical group of velvety greenish-blue colored Aurichalcite which plays host to tiny sparkling, translucent, pale blue colored "rice grain" habit crystals of Smithsonite which. The largest Aurichalcite group measures about 1.1 cm across, and if you flip the piece over, you can see the radial growth forms of the aggregates quite nicely. The Smithsonites are best seen under magnification, and we've photographed them with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate their quality.
