Item Description
An UNUSUALLY sculptural, colorful, OLD-TIME, two-sided large smithsonite specimen from this famous extinct locale. Gorgeous, translucent, lilac bubbly botryoids with waxy luster cover the striking mounded piece. The artistic two-sided form, vuggyness and smithsonite "porch" in the front add real drama to this outstanding piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6585, a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). The handwritten note on the back of Kay's label says she bought this from George Bideaux (Dick Bideaux's father) at Tucson in 1972. This piece is from the FIRST lot of El Refugio smithsonites to reach the US market. Classic and RARE old documented material, that was featured in a 2011 Mineralogical Record Mexico Special Issue. The piece displays beautifully without aid. Valued at $2000-2500.
