Item Description

Rich and showy large combination specimen from the Philadelphia Mine at Rush, Arkansas. Rich yellow Greenockite, cadmium sulfide, covers the myriad of tiny, translucent, Smithsonite botryoids, that coat the densely and attractively intergrown saddle-shaped Dolomite rhombohedrons on the limestone matrix plate. The scattered broken dolomite rhombs reveal the dolomite interiors. See the 1993 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 24, No. 4. Zinc mining took place intermittently between 1886 and 1962 at Rush. Formerly in the Dr. James Cole Collection and self-collected by him circa 1980. Ex George Loud Collection No. 4943, a well-known Washington, DC and Georgia mineral collector. See: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/biographies_labels/george-loud for more information on George. We recently acquired most of his impressive over 9000 piece collection. Valued at $2000. Classic and excellent combination from the famous zinc deposits at Rush.
