Item Description

Tsumeb is renowned for its Smithsonites, among many other minerals. These are classic Smithsonite rhombs, well-formed, lustrous, and they are zoned clear and white. There must be at least a hundred of them, ranging up to 9 mm on edge. They are growing on top of a layer of fine botryoids of pink Dolomite. The Smithsonites are excellent, no question about it, but what really raises the bar on this piece is the superb fluorescence. The Smithsonites fluoresce a vivid cornflower blue, while the Dolomite a medium gray-green. Overall, an excellent specimen in every regard. valued $900-1200
