Item Description
Sparkling, juicy, translucent smithsonite botryoids with top-grade "Kelly blue" color cover the striking benched matrix plate on this very sculptural and aesthetic small cabinet from the renowned Kelly Mine. The noted periphery wear is certainly only a modest detraction to this very showy, highly representative Kelly smithsonite with outstanding blue color. A New Mexico classic. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 979 and acquired from Scott Williams, certainly in the 1950s, with the low collection number. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
