Item Description
A stunning intense yellow Smithsonite, from a now famous find at Weinan, near Wenshan, that actually happened around 2003-2005, and was hoarded until recently. The yellow color is thought to be due to cadmium content, as with yellow Smithsonite from Tsumeb, Italy, and Mexico. The yellow smithsonite glows when back lit. These are very similar to Italian smithsonites from the 1800s. This is a particularly appealing, balanced specimen with an undamaged coverage of translucent, vitreous / velvety, beautiful yellow colored botryoidal formations on minor matrix. This seems to have been a lost locality, and I have seen no specimens attributed to recent collecting here. Valued at $1,800.
