Item Description
This is an excellent, classic, Kelly Mine smithsonite, the kind of quality now fairly scarce on the market. It is 3-dimensional, with thick rolling hills, and has a pristine display face except only expected contact at the bottom periphery. The color is exceptional and the luster is that vibrant, almost silky sheen that top Kelly smithsonite can have (it shimmers in the light, as you move it around, an almost pearlescent effect). To me, that surface shimmering is even more important than the top color, though this has both. A lucky find for me, I got this specimen in an old collection and trimmed it down to a good size and aesthetic shape. Otherwise, I would expect to have paid far too much for this to afford to be able to auction it, myself. Valued $2500-3000, this is an EXCELLENT specimen. ex John Ydren collection (Los Angeles collector, circa 1960s-early 1980s). 250 grams
