Item Description

A beautiful classic copper-bearing Smithsonite from this most historic and classic of localities. This miniature sized specimen hosts attractive spherical aggregates of gorgeous blue-green colored Smithsonite measuring up to 7 mm across on matrix. The piece is somewhat reminiscent of the famous Smithsonites from the Kelly Mine in New Mexico. There is a bit of roughness in spots but overall the piece is in fairly good shape. The color is so eye-catching and distinctive.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. The piece comes with an old "BURMINCO" label. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
