Item Description
Tsumeb for most people is the greatest mineral locality in history. The vast number of individual mineral species, which ranges from very common to extremely rare combined with the exquisite quality and unique associations makes it one of the most beloved places in the world for those who love mineral specimens. Here we have a classic example of the famous copper-bearing Smithsonites featuring a coverage of beautiful, sparkling, yellow-green colored modified trigonal crystals on matrix. Nearly all of the crystals are pristine and look beautiful under magnification. The piece was purchased from dealer Clive Queit in September of 1987.
From the collection Dr. Robert ("Rob") Bowell, a geochemist and adjunct professor in Geochemistry and Mineralogy at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Rob has a background in applied geology in tropical and deeply weathered terrains, he also has done mining consulting in the fields of due diligence, financial and technical audits, process chemistry, environmental geochemistry, environmental engineering and mineralogy.
