Smithsonite (classic old Mexico style)

Beautiful lavender, juicy, waxy bubbly smithsonite botryoids cover the sculptural large vuggy dense silicified matrix from the closed El Rufugio Mine. This is old 1960s or 1970s vintage material. Classic, excellent and large material from this essentially mined out locale, that was documented in a 2011 Mineralogical Record Mexico-VI Special Issue, Vol 42, No. 5. Many of us consider them much more beautiful than botryoidal smithsonite from nearly all other localities. The lavender color is highly desirable, among the many colors produced. Such specimens have recently been seen at shows, when they turn up at all, valued $1500-2500 for this color and size.
