Item Description

Smithsonite specimen are quite rare from the famous mines at Leadville. The front of this large, sculptural piece is covered with sparkly, sintered looking, spherical aggregates of tan to to rust-red smithsonite crystals. The piece is solid smithsonite and the two back faces reveal the striking boxwork form of this oxide zone specimen. Undoubtably old material, but no proof. Certainly not very attractive, but this is a rare, large, rich and highly representative example of uncommon for the locale species. A must for the Colorado or species collector.
